Behind the stories - CALAIS MIGRANT CRISIS
developed new SERIES
Jamie Ryan and I developed a new series for iPlayer where we got to demystify the news for the audience. Behind the Stories is about the person behind the story, and their experiences covering, reporting on and during it.
How do you remain neutral when you’re being personally attacked? What’s it like filming a royal tour? What happens when you are first to arrive on the scene of a humanitarian disaster? In the name of transparency, we would ask our colleagues to talk about the ins and outs of covering big news stories.
In my latest episode, Paris Correspondent Andrew Harding talks about the complexities of covering the migrant story, the wider political implications as well as the internal conflict of watching something dramatic unfold in front of your eyes and having to decide when to stop being a reporter and when to react as a citizen.
I’m particularly proud of the turnaround of this episode and the use of the extra footage provided by the team on the ground. I produced the episode remotely, interviewing Andrew over Zoom and edited the majority of the film myself.
