WW1 Beyond the trenches - MALTA
“The Nurse of the mediterranean”
Malta - a tiny spec of land in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. An island with a medical tradition that can be traced back some 500 years. During the first World War Malta earned the name ‘The Nurse of the Mediterranean’ with over 100,000 injured soldiers from all over the world pouring into her overflowing hospitals.
This story was the first in our six part TV series exploring how WW1 effected countries away from the trenches.
As the project lead, I worked on shaping the style and tone of each episode. I focussed on scripting, visual treatment, delivery and the social media strategy.
The series ran online in bespoke WW1 iWonder Guides as well as BBC Two and BBC News.
