WW1 Beyond the trenches - MEXICO

“The Zimmerman Telegram”

The Mexican-American border. A permanent symbol of distrust and fear. In 1848, after two years of bitter warfare, Mexico lost half of its land to neighbouring America. Some 70 years later a distrust lingered between the two countries. Germany saw this tension as an opportunity, perhaps even the key to winning the war.

In this six part TV series we looked at events beyond Europe's Western Front, exploring some of the lesser-known tales of the Great War from Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

As the project lead, I worked on shaping the style and tone of each episode. I focussed on scripting, visual treatment, delivery and the social media strategy.

The series ran online in bespoke WW1 iWonder Guides as well as BBC Two and BBC News.
